Hi:

A customer has several HP blades reporting via snmp to its HP insight manager application. As that software is free, he does not want to retrieve info directly to the traverse server because it is already in the insight manager.

Does anybody know how we can retrieve information from that app?

HP System Management "Insight Manager"
Proliant DL360 G5 Servers

Thanks in advance.

Hi Alex,

As you are aware, Traverse does not require installation of any proprietery agents on servers and uses built-in/native management capabilities for it's monitoring tasks. If you add an HP server into Traverse, it will automatically recognize Insight Manager agent and discover a wide range of metrics that cover server health as well as operating system performance. For example, using Insight Manager, Traverse can monitor down to the health of individual disks, memory modules or temperature of CPUs, status of internal fans, etc. You simply need to make sure that Insight Manager agent is configured to allow SNMP queries from the IP address where Traverse DGE component is running.

Rajib:

Thanks for your answer. We are aware that we can poll the information directly form the servers. The issue here is that the customer don't want to do it that way. He wants to poll the results 'from the insight manager server' database.

Of course doing this may lead to long testing periods. I only want to know if there is a known way to do so. If not, we are going to present the product as it is.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Hi:

I see that in the last release we can find a profile test "HP/Compaq Server with Insight Manager".

Question is: Using snmp, it will poll the "insight Manager Server", or will it poll " a server with the insight manager installed"?

I was checking the Insight Manager server with the customer, but didn't find any snmp configuration tab. And all we could get with the profile mentioned was "basic" snmp statistics (cpu, traffic In, etc.).

Have somebody made an integration with insight manager app?

Thanks for your comments

Alex.

Hi Alex,

Traverse has the ability to retrieve deep system level metrics from the Insight Manager agent running on the servers and does not integrate against the central management tool. You should explain to the customer that with advanced optimization techniques used by Traverse, the overhead of polling these agents a second time from the DGE would be minimal, if not negligible.
